  • Ishita Pande

Ishita Pande studies colonial and modern South Asia, with a special interest in the history of science and medicine, cities, race and gender. In her current work on colonial Calcutta, she reads works on hygiene and sanitation, ethnology and gynecology, civilization and improvement, to understand how medical and other scientific discourses sought to give shape to a modern city in the nineteenth century. Her next project will delve into the history of street life in Calcutta.
